The Scam Report

Internet Marketing No Comments »

Scams are ubiquitous these days. They arrive via email, postal mail, Internet, telephone, newspapers and magazines, even door-to-door. And as the economy worsens, you can bet that these scams will increase.

They attack homeowners, car owners, unemployed, job seekers, senior citizens, students, the rich, the poor, the middle-class. I’ll show you how they go phishing. How can you protect yourself? This article will answer those questions and help you protect your pocketbook.

These scammers have one thing in common, GREED! They want your money and will stop at nothing to do it, including lying, intimidation, bluffing, even physical threats. Let’s look at the various means they do it.

In PRINT. They sometimes will run a full page advertisement in a magazine or newspaper. Most of us want something for nothing, or the next best thing. Get it ‘below wholesale’.

Usually a scammer leaves out the most important item in an ad. NO name, NO phone, NO email, NO website. NO way to reach them except the mailing address to mail your check to. And, some won’t even accept a check. They want cash or money order. They typically don’t accept credit cards, as they would lose their merchant account as soon as they were discovered.

If the ad has none of this information and demands cash or money order, STOP! Don’t send for it. It’s probably a scam. A legit company will proudly post their full name, who they are, a website, an email if you have questions, and a phone number, usually a toll free number. And they will accept credit cards.

Ordering by credit card helps protect you, as you have some recourse with their help. One way to help prevent others, is to write a letter of complaint to the publication. Why are they helping a scam artist? If it is legit, you may hear back from the editor.

By Email. Email, for the scammer, is a cheap way to mass communicate with millions of people virtually instantly. 20 years ago they had to do it my postal mail, and postage gets expensive. The email will have some outrageous headline.

You click on the response in the ad, and are directed to a website that extols the virtues of the program, and how you can get rich too. They say tomorrow is to late. Click now, and have credit card ready. Or, it’s FREE, but you wind up paying $50 to $100 or more on your credit card without you knowing it.

By Phone. The Telemarketing scam. They call and appeal to your generosity in the past, and ask you to donate, (via credit card) to their ‘charity’.. Another is jury duty scam, where someone calls saying their from the police dept, or court house, and you failed to report for jury duty (even though you were never selected).

Then scam you out of a few hundred dollars, taking advantage of your fear. Advice, Never give credit card number or social security number over the phone.

By Mail. You receive a letter stating you won a lottery in Canada, Europe or other nation. Call this number and collect. But first you need to pay the ‘taxes’ or other ‘fees’ to collect. They then collect several hundred dollars from you to collect your ‘winnings’ of thousands.

Or the infamous Nigerian scam. That’s where you receive a letter stating some official in Nigeria dies, and they need to get millions out of the country.

And if you let them deposit the millions in your bank account, you get a percentage of the money. Once they get your bank account and social security number, they are gone, along with your money.

Phishing. You receive a call or email advising you to visit a website that looks identical to your banks website. They want you to confirm certain information, like account numbers, passwords, social security number. Then of course they have access to your account.

Foreclosure frauds, and loan modifications. They take advantage of homeowners in trouble and fleece them for thousands, some times losing their home in the process.

Job Offers. More recently scammers are attracted to website with resumes of people looking for jobs. They promote a fake job, getting you to fill out job apps and paying for information or fees, and getting personal information.

Fake Checks. The FBI reports this is a fast growing crime. Sending you a fake check, they look so real, then you deposit them in your account.

If you are selling your car, say for $5000, they will send you a “Certified Check” for $6000, saying the extra thousand is for shipping costs, and please forward that thousand to some company. You wire the money, and a week later, the ‘certified check’ fails to clear, and you are out the money.

Other scams include, home repair, car repair, the Deaf and Mute using TTY, Identity theft, assemble products at home, stuff envelopes, evens kids and seniors get scammed.

Other scams include: Dating, Business Opportunities, Tax Refunds, Pyramids, Missing Child Hoax, Online Auctions, weight loss, anti-aging, and promotions for ‘government bailouts’ and phony investments. And Now, The ‘NEW STIMULUS Checks’ scam.

Problems Related To Blogging And Social Networking!

Blogging 2 Comments »

With the news full of problems being experienced by social networking sites are we seeing the beginning of the end for Blogs and Social networking. My Space have just closed 29,000 profiles of know child offenders and Face book’s owner is in court fighting to stop a rival closing him down.
Can it be that the bubble is about burst and we are all about to see the fallout of closer regulation on line relating to the freedom of content and speech for our online world?

The massive growth of blogging and social networking has been possible due to the ability of users to practice freedom of speech at the speed of typing. In a flash we can update our blogs and profiles online with little or no thought. I am a blog author and as such I am concerned that there will be a slow creep of official regulations and rules which determine the content and its tone. Bad press is just the catalyst the control freaks need to get their teeth in to the Blogosphere.

It is fare to say that all online authors have a personal and moral responsibility to manage their online actions and content. All too many of us forget that what we say online is open to be read by every one; that’s the power we have when using the World Wide Web.

Where will this all end, may be I am getting over excited? Are we going to see another black day when the dot com bubble burst yet again? If this dose happen how many of use will rise from the ashes and face the new world?

The power of the internet is such that even the smallest thing can become a world wide issue in hours. In the blink of an eye anything can become a major world wide event; some time I think we forget that. I am only a small fish in a very big sea but I call upon all the Big Fish out there in the blogosphere to set an example and show the world that we can be trusted to manage our own affairs.
I might just be getting my knickers in a twist about nothing but at least we should take note that if event online are being picked up buy offline news then things may be out of our control. We must be able to show we can keep our house in order.

Blogging-Article Marketing A Winning Team!

Blogging 2 Comments »

Blogging is one form of the commercial activities; it is not a private diary. The idea of the blogging is to communicate to the big amount of the targeted people. And to reach business targets.

So a business blogging has actually no difference compared with the website and the blog needs also the same promotional actions to become successful.

The business tool aspect sets a requirement, that your blog must have contacts, or links, with other related blogs or websites in the Internet. That is a must.

If you compare the links with the business relationships, you understand easily their importance

The article marketing builds a lot of related contacts, which presells the idea of the blog. So when a visitor enters the blog, he is enthusiastic and waiting for your story.

On the top of this, the article marketing builds credibility or brand image, which has a strong impact on your internet home business during the long term.

The great thing about blogging is that when you ping your blog after written a new post, tens of directories get the information about it and thanks to RSS feed thousands of other bloggers will be informed. Think about the quickness!

While blogging, use optimized text, i.e. write with the related keywords. This makes it possible to rank high in the search engines. Your article marketing must use the same main keyword in the Author Box.

This is the anchor text between your blogging and the article and a sign to the search engines, that these links will raise your blog high in the search engine ranking, when the article distribution has distributed them into thousands of article directories and websites.

The idea of the article marketing is to write unique, useful articles, which will help the reader to learn more about your niche or to get enthusiastic to buy something from your blog.

The article marketing as a blog traffic builder is fantastic because it will bring both short and long term targeted traffic, build backlinks and the brand. The winning duo, blogging and article marketing can be used with Blogger and WordPress.

One thing is important in blogging. The blogvisitors love the fresh and useful content. The usefulness is the greatest reason why they come cack and bookmark your blog. So I recommend a daily blogging or at least three times per week. And, please use always a unique content! Otherwise the search engines will penalize you.

Keeping it Honest as a Paid Blogger

Blogging for Money No Comments »

With all the controversy around paid blogging, what can you do to keep your reputation yet accept payment for blog postings?

The main thing you need to do is quite simply keep it honest. If you can’t be honest about your feelings about what you’re being paid to blog about, just don’t do it! Think of the payment as being for bringing something to your attention, rather than payment for your good opinion. Say what you mean so you don’t feel embarrassed or want to delete the post later.

Yes, that does mean you can choose to criticize something you’ve been asked to review. Even if you hate a product or website I recommend keeping it professional. You can say you loathe something without ranting and raving, and you will sound more credible.

Be upfront about the fact that you do sometimes get paid for blogging. At the very least have a disclaimer easily found on your site. If you feel the need, just mention it every time you do a sponsored post.

Keep it relevant to what your readers come to your blog for. I personally blog for a couple different companies that pay me to post, and when an opportunity is not something that can be fit naturally into my blog, I skip it.

The biggest controversy has been over required positive reviews. Fortunately these are not as common as critics would have you believe. And the solution is so simple… if you don’t honestly believe the site or product in question deserves a positive review, don’t review it. Or if you feel strongly enough, do an unpaid negative review.

The other big problem is that there are some junk blogs out there accepted into pay for posting programs. Junk websites of all kinds are a chronic problem on the internet, and it is to be hoped that they each fail quickly. But sometimes really lousy paid posts are accepted, which does reflect negatively on those who put forth more of a genuine effort.

Yes, some people do blog sheerly for the love of sharing their thoughts. The rest do it in hopes of earning some money, maybe to make a name for themselves and similar reasons. But most do need to bring in some kind of money, whether through traditional ads on the site, affiliate programs or by accepting payment for posts. The problem isn’t with earning money. The issue is whether or not you can maintain your integrity as you do so.

“What Do I Blog About?”

Blogging 1 Comment »

The most common answer to this question is also one of the most unhelpful for the small business owner, lifestyle entrepreneur, or passionate professional about to jump into the blogging world. Here, with a couple of concrete examples, is a simple way to get started blogging.

This question gets asked all the time from small business owners and lifestyle entrepreneurs diving into the blogging world, and the answer is, “Anything related to your business, products, services, industry, which would also be informative and entertaining (and not sales-y) for your Ideal Audience.”

And that answer, while accurate, just isn’t helpful.

Because (as we’re finally realizing) when cybernauts ask what to blog about, the question is also a stand-in for a host of other concerns:

* What’s the point?…

* How will this get me more business?…

* I’m not a writer…

* There’s fear involved in “putting myself out there” in this way…

* I don’t know where to start…

* I’m overwhelmed by the idea, the technology, the fitting-it-in around the rest of everything else I have to do as Chief Cook and Bottle Washer in my business…

You get the idea.

Assuming for now that you will be jumping in to the blogging world, here’s the easiest formula I can come up with for a successful blog post, which I laid out for me last year:

“To sum up, blogging can be as simple as:

“1. Reading an industry news story

“2. Formulating your opinion on it

“3. Typing up your opinion and supporting it with your unique set of knowledge

“Could each of [your executive team members] do that in 15-30 minutes or so, once (or twice) a month? If so, your blog will be a roaring success.”

That lack of inclusion is blog-worthy. In fact, if it had been included, it would also be blog-worthy, but for the specific situation, let’s put it this way:

Imagine you’re the co-owner of that storage system business, and you’re at a cocktail party. Someone comes up to you and says, “I heard Remodeling magazine didn’t include storage systems in their Cost vs. Value report. What do you think about that?”

“I think that’s short-sighted,” you say.

“Why?”

“Well, some custom closet installs run about $12K, which is in line with some of the lower-cost projects they’re tracking. Storage and organization is a multi-billion-dollar industry, so it’s worthy of Remodeling’s attention. And a closet system is just as much of an upscale addition as a kitchen remodel, in terms of making the home more attractive to potential buyers. In a tough housing market, that could make the difference between selling and sitting on another year of mortgage and escrow payments.”

That exchange is, literally, what the closet system company could post on their new blog about that report. They have their own personalities and styles of talking and writing, so it would end up reading differently, but in terms of creating the outline of a blog post, that’s exactly all they have to do.

Of course, they could add one more thing. They could then write a question and a call to action for their readers: “Was the sale of your house affected by a closet system? Or was a closet system one of your deciding factors in choosing to buy one house over another?

This example, hopefully, not only helps illustrate what to blog about, but also serves as a step in the right direction for wrestling those “other issues” down to the ground.

Ethical Business Blogging

Blogging No Comments »

Blogging is good for business and this is what most companies are turning towards to today. It isn’t just some crap about putting together stored ideas and using keywords in the process. It is about building identity and this is something that has helped in the marketing and promotions of most companies today. Most people who jump ship do so because they just cannot stay one moment longer at their place of work and honor their own deeply held business or career values at the same time.

People might be able to happily get by with less money, but they cannot work for long in a situation that violates a deeply held core value. Values go beyond beliefs. They are the core philosophies we hold sacred. People often report feeling as though they were born with these values. Every individual has a core set of personal values he or she brings to work; every business has a core set of business values. The optimum business situation is when these sets of personal and business values overlap, blend and morph into what I call shared values. Whether you are consciously aware of them or not, your personal values constitute your ideals, and shape your being - indeed they are your being. And whether you are in alignment with them or not-whether you own or work in a business that reflects them or not they affect your every thought, word and action.

I am the best example of how values- or rather a conflict in personal and business value-helped to shape my behavior and decision-making. I sold my thriving business, not because it was a failure- financially speaking, it was wildly successful- but because I was not able to keep that business and honor my own value of personal freedom. The nature of the business demanded too much time and dedication. Once I realized this, no amount of money could make me stay.

If you are a business owner, your business values are your company’s invisible CEOs. Whether you realize it or not, your values help manage every aspect of your business. They guide your decisions; they help determine if your business is viable and valuable. When you create a business that is in alignment with your values-and when you bring people on board who are in harmony with those values-your business has the best chance of meeting your personal and financial goals. How closely your business is aligned with your own values, and how closely your employees’ values follow suit, determines the degree to which your business will fly or flop on all fronts.

A strong sense of shared values allows you to initiate meaningful actions based on mutual agreement instead of spending all your time managing the fallout caused by not honoring them. Without this shared value, our working relationship would have been doomed from day one. With the respect piece missing, we would not be happy with their performance and attitude, and they would not be happy trying to fit in with us. The payoff for consistently knowing and acting from this and other shared values was that we enjoyed long term relationships with employees, vendors, clients and customers that stretched 25 years or more. We had corporate contracts that lasted 15 and 20 years, a time period unheard of in the contract dining services industry.

Tidbits On Monetizing Blogs

Blogging for Money No Comments »

Blogging for profit has increased in popularity since its inception. The irony is that the original blogs were not at all designed with profit in mind. They were meant to be primarily informational and hopefully entertaining, well some of them wanted to be entertaining. The original blogs were essentially logs of articles that could be found about particular subjects or interests online. The real beauty of the original blogs is that they were excellent resources to some quite obscure information that might have otherwise been overlooked or missed in the research process (not all good information has been optimized for Google or other search engines).

The idea of blogging for profit, while not entirely new has taken on new meaning in the last couple of years. Gone are the days when Google ruled the roost. There are other monetizing options for today’s blogs and today’s bloggers. Many blogs are turning towards information marketing, affiliate programs, and other Google alternatives such as Chitika eMiniMalls, Amazon, and yahoo for starters. Each of these options offers something attractive to those who have either been spurned by Google or find themselves dismayed by their slow progress.

Google is probably the most popular service for monetizing blogs. It is also a stickler for strict adherence, which is not necessarily a bad thing if you’ve managed to understand all the rules. You really need to take your time and read and understand everything fully about Google before signing up. I will say that while I have had some degree of success with Google, I am not really making enough money by Google alone to make it worthwhile, particularly with the rather high minimum payout rate. To each his or her own however, and I’m sure that many of you will find Google more than adequate for your blog monetizing needs.

Of the many, I’ve heard mixed reviews on Chitika eMiniMalls. This is one that really does need to reach a targeted market. I has been said that gadget blogs have found some degree of success with these particular ads, while these ads did not fare as well in some other blogs. The general opinion about Chitika is that it works well if the ads are targeted to your audience. If you are dealing with techies and have articles about iPods and PDAs you will do better than if you are targeting tired housewives. However, Chitika isn’t limited to gadgets, they have other ads as well. See if any of their ads fit into your niche before writing them off. I also recommend a few weeks of trying and playing around with ad placement before deciding against them as well. You only need to have earned $10 in order to receive a payout from them unlike Google and you can use these (provided you follow the rules set forth-check the website for details) along with Google ads on your site.

The important thing to remember when monetizing your blog is that you are not limited to one or two options, you have many. Check them all out, play around with them and see which options can be used in conjunction with other similar options. You just might be surprised at how much more money you can earn by choosing the underdog.

Why Should You Opt For Blogging Over Other Options?

Blogging No Comments »

Today, in this world of internet, blogs have become very common among the different people. No one can surf the internet without seeing blog anywhere. Everyone is busy in expanding her/his business. They are pouring large amount of money for ads and for promoting their business. Blogs are very helpful in this respect. Anyone can easily know, through surfing the blogs online, about the different kinds of information regarding the particular business. The word ‘blog’ is a short form of the term of ‘web log’. Actually, blog is a particular area, which is set aside by you in order to write articles. It can be easily accessed through a special program called RSS reader.

If you want to set up a blog, you must select a template that will house your information. Once you have created a blog, you can post whatever information or write up whatever you want. It is a very easy way to put anyone’s write-ups on the internet. The most important thing is that you can get free software to have free access of them. If anybody wants to increase his or her business, he must use blogs. Through this medium, you can enhance your impression in front of the people by giving a human face to your business. Through blogs, you can explain the working of your business, what are the benefits that anyone can get from this business, and so on. You can also make it easier for people to enter your business, and get different offers.

Blogs are a very easy medium to earn the faith of the people. They will come to the website and notice important things regarding your business, how you have dealt with interesting things, how you have shared your insights with them regarding the subjects they want to know, and so on. Impressed by your deep insight on the subject they will visit your blog regularly, and have a look at your subjects and what you are offering. In this way, they will come to you regarding any business dealings instead of going to your competitors. This will gradually increase your business and will help you to earn money on a large scale. So, you must not put up a faceless business like robots. Instead, you must put up a human face through articles and write-ups that grip your interest.

Do not think that it is not worthwhile in putting up blogs in your website, as there are very less number of avid readers in the society. If you put all your posts on your different websites, then you will get to know that there are random users who will look into your websites and your posts that you have kept in. It is definite that if they like your way of approaching then they will surely jump into that. So, it is of utmost importance for anybody, who wants to make money in business, to open a blog. It will simply enhance your business and, quite naturally, your earnings.

Discover The Power Of Blogging

Blogging No Comments »

The dark circles under your eyes are evidence that you have been pecking away at the keyboard again. Night after night you sit, mesmerized by the computer screen surfing forum after forum filling the blank spaces with your comments and opinions about senseless issues, political debates, religious matters, business strategies and shopping options. All the while your marriage is deteriorating, your children are growing up and away, your business is wavering on the brink of bankruptcy, spiritual matters are being neglected, all to which you are oblivious.

One day you happen to come upon an internet forum about blogging. “What in the world is blogging?” you wonder.

Suddenly you become enthralled with a new mission. You have to get to the bottom of this. With all the time you have spent on the internet communicating with people throughout the world, you have never heard of blogging. You want to learn everything there is to know about it…

Blogging is a relatively new phenomenon that is truly undefined due to the fact that it is not yet what it will become. Currently weblogs teeter on the edges of interactive journalism vs. personal archiving and information sharing. Different bloggers have varying purposes and goals. Some aim to record their thoughts, some to share resources and information and some to tell stories. Blogging has also been used as a tool for educating readers and for providing customer service and communications as well as serving as a tool for self-expression.

With Google’s introduction of the AdSense content-targeted advertising program, you can even generate some revenue from your blog as you get paid per click for Google Ads accessed from your blog. Don’t create a blog on the premise that you’re going to get rich from advertising payments or you may be sorely disappointed. Rather, view the ad program as an added bonus for the time spent filling your blog with useful content, or as getting paid a little for doing something you enjoy.

The best way to get started blogging is just to jump in and get your feet wet. Decide what you want to accomplish through your blog. Is it a tool for getting things off your chest? Sharing your thoughts and feelings? Providing information? Tracking events?

Reading through various blogs will provide you with some ideas for your blogs purpose and for developing your writing style.

Find a blogging medium that you are comfortable with. There are some options out there for free blogs and there are some paid services that are very reasonable, some for commercial and some for non-commercial use.

Probably the quickest and easiest way to start your own blog is to use a hosted service like Blogger - http://www.blogger.com. Getting started with Blogger is a three step process that you can take care of right now. You simply create an account, name your blog and choose a template and you’ll be ready to get started making blog entries. Once you get comfortable with the basic process of blogging, be sure to visit the “Help” section of the Blogger website to learn more about advanced uses and blogging options.

How to Make Money Blogging - 2 Secrets to Help You Through Retirement

Blogging Tips & ideas No Comments »

How to make money blogging? Hey, many of us over 50 may seem old and on the verge of toppling over from the perspective of the youthful Web 2.0-ers, but some of us do actually know how to earn money on the internet! In fact, many of us have quite a serious incentive to know what’s going for what in the world of Internet Marketing, for the simple reason that we ARE nearly keeling over, and we NEED to make a fast - and lasting - buck to provide for our upcoming retirement…

To be more precise: we need a consistent, secure, low-maintenance - even automated - source of income that will outlast us in our twilight years. Well, if you have a couple of years left till retirement and you know how to make money blogging, it’s entirely possible to provide for a comfortable supplemental retirement income, or to even enhance it significantly!

Here are two important methods to consider:

1. Start blogging for AdSense dollars Start a niche site using one of the blogging programs available, such as WordPress. The advantage of using something like WordPress is that it’s free, you can install it on your domain within minutes, and there are Adsense ready templates available to add ads automatically to your blog. If you do some research, you will find many, many profitable topics to write about. Try doing product reviews for items that are in great demand. These will always attract lots of advertising for your AdSense income. If you post and promote your articles regularly for a year or two, you will receive a steadily growing income that will eventually require very little maintenance, and that can sustain you for a long time, while you happily go on your world cruises! Don’t know how to blog? You will find lots of info on the web to make it quite easy to teach yourself blogging! Before you know it, you will be an expert on how to make money blogging.

2. Start an opt in email list While a blogging site with AdSense income can provide a really good long term passive income, it is always good to spread your risks, especially when it comes to retirement! One of the best retirement assets you could build up is probably an opt in email list, or a double opt in leads list, as it is also called. The idea behind this method is that you will have a ready market at your (arthritic!?) fingertips for a long time to come. Once you have a good list of say a couple of thousand leads, you can market affiliate products to them as often as you need to supplement your retirement income. How does it work? A very effective way to build an opt in email list is to set up a squeeze page on your site. This can be done within a few minutes if you use one of the many available templates specially prepared for this purpose.

The squeeze page captures the contact details of your visitors, mostly by offering them some kind of bonus in return. You also need to set up an autoresponder follow-up system which sends out information and offers at regular intervals - all of this can be fully automated to leave you the freedom of enjoying your walks or books or the visits from the grandchildren! Now, just settle in and drive traffic to your squeeze page and see your list grow over time! If you stick it out diligently for a couple of years, you will be surprised at the income stream you have at your disposal for those lazy years ahead! Who knows, once you discover how to make money blogging, retiring may not seem like such an inviting prospect after all…
